At this stage of Riding Mill’s development, trust is built through the calibre of the people behind the platform. The business is being shaped by experienced operators who have founded, led, governed, and grown organisations across multiple sectors and jurisdictions. Their track records provide the credibility behind the strategy, demonstrating that Riding Mill is not simply an idea or an investment proposition, but a platform being built by people who understand how to create enduring businesses.
Malcolm Rutherford is a Chartered Accountant and entrepreneur with over three decades of experience founding, building, leading, and governing businesses across South Africa and the United Kingdom.
As one of the founding executives of Dimension Data, Malcolm served as Group CFO as the company grew from a regional technology business into a US$2 billion global enterprise, culminating in its London Stock Exchange listing in 2000. His role extended beyond finance to acquisitions, integration, and the operating model that supported the group’s international expansion.
Since leaving corporate life at 43, Malcolm has built and exited businesses through Tynedale Trust, his family office. He has also served on the boards of several listed and unlisted companies, including as Chairman of JSE-listed Crookes Brothers Ltd, and has chaired Audit and Risk Committees.
More recently, he co-founded Khulisa Investment Partners, a transformation-focused mid-market investment vehicle, and Riding Mill, continuing a career defined by disciplined growth, governance, and entrepreneurship.
Richard Muddimer is a seasoned financial services executive with over 35 years of experience founding, building, and leading regulated investment and fiduciary businesses across Jersey, the UK, Switzerland, South Africa, and Mauritius.
Throughout his career, Richard has founded and co-founded several offshore financial services businesses, steering them through growth and regulatory complexity across multiple jurisdictions. His entrepreneurial reach has extended beyond financial services — he acquired a UK-based manufacturing business and, as Chairman, led a turnaround strategy that drove its successful growth through to a sale to a UK public company in 2023.
At a governance level, Richard has served on the boards of several offshore financial services businesses and currently sits on the board of BTG Mauritius as a non-executive director. Riding Mill marks the latest chapter in a career built on identifying opportunity and delivering results across borders.
